Komodo Dragon





Description.

In the wild, an adult dragon komodo usually have weighs around 70 Kg. But the biggest Komodo dragon have weighs around 166 Kg. Male Komodo dragon is bigger than female Komodo dragon, with skin color from dark gray to brik red, while female dragon are usually green and have small yellow spots on their throats.
Komodo has a tail that is the same length as its body. Although the Komodo dragon is listed as the largest lizard in the world, it is not the longest species
In the mouth of an adult Komodo dragon, there are around 60 sharp jagged teeth along about 2,5 cm. Komodo has a long tongue, yellow and forked.

Sense
Komodo is able to see as far 300 m. This animal can't see very well in the dark of the night. Komodo dragon do not have the sense of hearing, despite having ear. Komodo Uses its tongue to smell its prey as much as most Squamata. Komodo dragon can detect the meat as far 4 - 9,5 km.
Komodo nostrils only to breathe and not smell. The komodo dragon was once deaf when research found that whispers, increased voices and screams did not effect the komodo.



Reproduction

Komodo mating season usually between may and August. During this period, male dradon fight with other males to fight over females and their territories. the losing komodo will fall down and be "locked' into the ground.




Female Komodo dragons usually lay their eggs in the ground hole, however, Komodo dragons prefer to store their eggs in nests that have been left behind. Komodo nests contain an average of 20 eggs. The female incubates on the eggs to incubate and protect them until they hatch after incubating for 7-8 months.



Food

Komodo dragons are animals that eat other animals (carnivores). However, these monitor lizards often eat carcass meat. Existing research shows that Komodo dragons hunt for live prey by sneaking up followed by sudden attacks on their victims. When the prey is within its reach, the Komodo dragon immediately attacks it by biting on the underside of the body or throat.
Komodo dragons find their prey by using their tongues which can feel the smell of prey, dead or dying animals at distances of up to 9.5 kilometers.
